Ecology Loves…

“Our family uses the magnesium ointment every night to help us sleep, and to calm our children.”

This rich ointment combines magnesium chloride with a nourishing base of shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil — ingredients chosen for how they feel on skin as much as for what they do. Pure lavender essential oil and a hint of warming black pepper create a scent that's calm and grounding rather than clinical.

Most people find it fits naturally into an evening routine — after a bath, before bed, as the thing that signals the day is done. Massage a small amount into feet, shoulders, or wherever you'd most enjoy a few minutes of attention.

The texture is rich without being heavy. It absorbs well and leaves skin feeling soft, not greasy.

What's inside

Each ingredient is there for a reason:

  • Shea butter, coconut oil & olive oil — a deeply nourishing base that leaves skin soft and moisturised
  • Magnesium chloride — a naturally occurring mineral salt
  • Lavender essential oil — pure, calming, and unmistakably relaxing in scent
  • Black pepper essential oil — adds a gentle warmth and depth to the lavender; a traditional favourite in massage blends
  • Olive wax — gives the ointment its satisfying, balm-like texture
  • Geogard (gluconolactone, sodium benzoate, calcium gluconate) — a natural preservative system; no parabens

Vegan. No synthetic fragrance. No parabens.

How to Use

Scoop out a small amount — around half a teaspoon — and warm it between your palms before massaging into skin. Feet, shoulders, the back of your neck: wherever you'd most enjoy a few minutes of care.

The soles of the feet are a favourite spot. The skin is thick and robust, the pores open beautifully after a warm soak, and it's an easy habit to build into a bedtime routine.

Wash hands after use and avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

For external use only. Patch test before first use if you have sensitive skin. Discontinue if irritation occurs.

Magnesium FAQs

When is the best time to use it?

Most people use it as part of an evening wind-down — after a bath or shower, before bed. The warmth of the skin helps the ointment absorb and soften, and the lavender scent makes it a genuinely pleasant ritual. That said, some people also use it in the morning or after exercise — whenever a few quiet minutes makes sense.

How much should I use?

Around half a teaspoon (approximately 2.5ml) per application. See the size guide above for how many applications each jar gives you.

What does it smell like?

Soft, calming lavender with a hint of warm spice from the black pepper oil. It's gentle rather than overpowering — the kind of scent that makes you want to slow down. Most people find it genuinely lovely.

Why does it contain black pepper oil?

Black pepper essential oil has a naturally warming, slightly spicy quality that's been used in massage and body care for centuries. It adds depth to the lavender and gives the ointment a subtle warming sensation when massaged in. It's one of those ingredients that you only notice when it's not there.

Can I use it every day?

Yes. The formula uses gentle, natural ingredients with no harsh actives. As with any new skincare product, we'd suggest a small patch test first if you have sensitive skin.

Is it suitable during pregnancy?

We'd always recommend checking with your GP or midwife before introducing any new product during pregnancy. Lavender essential oil is generally best avoided during the first trimester.

Is it Vegan?

Yes — completely vegan. No beeswax, lanolin, or any other animal-derived ingredient. Not tested on animals.

How should I store it?

Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat. A cool, dry shelf or bedside table is ideal. No refrigeration needed.

Is it the same as a magnesium oil or spray?

No — an ointment has a very different texture and feel. Where magnesium oil or spray can leave a slightly sticky or tingly sensation, this ointment is rich and smooth, more like a balm. It's designed to be massaged in as part of a skin-care routine rather than spritzed on and left.

Is this a replacement for magnesium supplements?

No — this is a topical skincare product, not a dietary supplement. If you're considering magnesium supplementation for nutritional reasons, that's a separate conversation with a healthcare professional.
